The Poison type is one of the 18 Pokémon elemental types. Before the addition of Fairy-type, it was only super effective against Grass-type Pokémon, while being resisted or ineffective against several types. The main function of Poison-type moves is actually for nasty effects, especially poison and bad poison. Poison-type Pokémon are actually immune to these two status ailments, similar to how Grass-type Pokémon are immune to Grass-type status effects. However, as Poison-type attacks are now also super effective against the newly-added Fairy-type Pokémon, these attacks are becoming more popular in battles. Grounded Poison-type Pokémon can also remove Toxic Spikes from the field if they are switched in.
